Drupal: Content Management Framework

Drupal started out as a simple Content Management System (CMS) in 2001. Back then, it was an easy way to regularly update content on your website. But Drupal, over the years, has evolved into a completely different beast. Many people refer to it... correctly, in our opinion, as a Content Management Framework.

Drupal is designed to allow extra features to be added to it in the form of modules. It uses an elaborate system of hooks which allow custom code to interact with Drupal's core library. This allows for (almost) limitless possibilities. Out of the box, Drupal comes with a full-fledged user management system with role-based access control and permissions, a flexible categorization system (taxonomy), a blog, a forum and other basic features which are used in most websites.

The magic happens in the form of contributed modules which add an almost endless amount of extra functionality – shopping carts, newsletters, CAPTCHAs, user tracking/analytics, image galleries, you name it, there's (most likely) a module for it.

We are Drupal experts

At WebrMedia, we pride ourselves on being Drupal experts. We use Drupal as the starting point for many projects. We believe that it is the most powerful and flexible open-source CMS yet. Drupal provides a solid foundation for building custom functionality into websites. It reduces the development time significantly, and adds a few extra bells-and-whistles of its own (which our clients seem to love so much).

However, Drupal may not necessarily be the best CMS for your project. Depending on what you're trying to achieve with your website, it might be more effective to deploy a simpler CMS. The technology used to power your website is one of the most significant decisions you'll make, and should not be taken lightly. The cost, effort and frustration of migrating your data from one CMS schema to another is something most website owners would prefer avoiding.
